CHEVROLET CORVAIR

First appearing in 1960, the Chevrolet Corvair
was to represent an entirely different direction for General Motors
in the compact field. Powered by a rear-mounted air-cooled
flat six engine, the Corvette was available in a variety of
different guises including coupé, sedan, convertible and station
wagon, whilst later, commercial variants were also offered.
By the mid-1960s, compact cars were to represent a very large
proportion of sales in the United States, competing against the
smaller and fuel-efficient vehicles being imported from Europe,
including of course the VW Beetle.
This 1965 coupé, finished in white with
matching leather trim, was imported by the Managing Director of
Portcullis Motors Ltd in 1992 and has remained in the same
ownership since. Described as being in good condition all
round, it has been maintained by Portcullis Motors Ltd and anything
that was required was dealt with. The white leather seats
were replaced approximately eight years ago; however, it would seem
that in all other respects the car is largely original. It
was acquired from the museum in Kansas and the recorded mileage of
40,250 at time of writing is, we are assured by the vendor,
correct.
A rare motor car this side of the Atlantic,
this Corvair is offered with documents including the Owner’s Guide,
details of the original owner and a V5 registration document.
It is hoped that a new MOT certificate will be acquired by the time
of the sale.
