What is AA Safe
Sell, and how does it work?
The AA and British Car Auctions have teamed up to create AA Safe
Sell. It is a scheme allowing AA Members to sell their car,
van or motorcycle at auction through BCA’s nationwide network of
centres. It is the simple and safe alternative to selling
your vehicle privately. BCA, the UK and Europe’s largest
vehicle auction company, handle circa 1.3 million vehicles per
year, and have an annual turnover of around £3.5 billion. AA
Members can save up to 30% off BCA’s normal fees to sell a
vehicle. The process begins when a Member contacts the AA
Safe Sell team. Non-AA Members who are referred by a Member
can also sell their vehicle via AA Safe Sell, but the
savings/discount available is not as great as that for Members.
Who do I speak to for help?
Call the AA Safe Sell team on 0845 365 1303. Our staff are fully
trained to answer all your questions and queries. They will ask you
questions about your vehicle in order to provide a Guide Price and
explain the next steps. There is obviously no obligation to use
Safe Sell at this stage.
What
age or value can my car be to sell with AA Safe
Sell?
Nearly-new, recent model, or older vehicles are
all welcome – be they budget or prestige brands. The AA Safe
Sell team will ask you questions about your vehicle in order to
provide a Guide Price and explain the next steps. Should you have a
specialist or classic vehicle, the team may refer this to BCA’s
in-house classic car department for an expert view and
valuation. Should your vehicle’s age and condition be
particularly poor, it may not be possible to provide an appropriate
valuation or an auction reserve price. In this case, you can still
choose to sell your vehicle via AA Safe Sell, but it would be
offered for sale with no reserve.
Do I need to attend an
Auction?
No. If you wish we can arrange for your
vehicle to be picked up from a pre-arranged location, along with
the relevant documentation and transferred to the nearest auction
centre. Your AA Safe Sell contact will keep you updated on the
status of your vehicle and manage the auction process on your
behalf.
Do I need to show my
vehicle to anyone?
No. Safe Sell is a 100% safe way
to sell your car, van or motorcycle. If you ask us to collect your
vehicle you only need to hand your vehicle and documentation to our
approved collection agent. You do not need to give anyone outside
the AA Safe Sell scheme your name, address or phone number. You are
completely protected and anonymous during the selling process. We
complete the V5 (Vehicle Log Book or ownership document) on your
behalf and this will show the new owner who the previous registered
keeper was.
How soon do I get
paid?
The AA Safe Sell scheme will normally send you
a cheque within 3 - 5 working days of your vehicle selling. The
payment will be guaranteed so there are no worries about bouncing
cheques or handling cash.
How much will it
cost?
This varies depending on the value of your
vehicle and whether you wish us to collect and valet your vehicle.
There may be cheaper ways to sell your vehicle, but AA Safe Sell
guarantees you a no-hassle, stress-free, safe and secure service.
We will advise you of our charges before you decide whether to use
Safe Sell or not.
What if I
don't know how much my vehicle is worth?
At auction,
vehicles are valued on many factors such as age, mileage,
condition, make, model and service history for example. We offer
for sale well over 1,000,000 vehicles every year so you can rely on
our experience and sophisticated management systems to give you a
realistic idea of your vehicle’s worth. Again, you may get more if
you try and sell your vehicle privately but you then run the risk
of inviting people to your home, waiting for cleared funds, having
to haggle and negotiate and your vehicle not selling week after
week. Safe Sell can offer you a safe, secure and swift selling
environment with a guaranteed payment.
What is the reserve
price?
This is the lowest price you will accept for your vehicle. We
cannot sell it below this price. We are happy to advise you on a
realistic reserve price for your vehicle. Because BCA sells
so many vehicles every day, the AA Safe Sell team are well placed
to advise realistic reserve prices that give your vehicle the best
opportunity to sell.
What happens if my
vehicle does not sell?
At all times your vehicle is stored safely and securely on our
premises and the vehicle remains your property until sold. If we
receive a bid that meets or is above your reserve price we sell
your vehicle. If we receive a bid under your reserve price we will
call you and negotiate on your behalf with the prospective buyer to
get a bid as close to your reserve as possible. There is no need
for you to speak with anyone except the AA Safe Sell team.
If your vehicle is still not sold there are 2
options:-
* We would speak to you to re-evaluate the reserve price for the
next appropriate sale.
* You may remove the vehicle from the AA Safe Sell scheme. If you
wish to do this any charges accrued will be advised to you, and be
payable on invoice when you collect your vehicle.
