AUSTIN TWELVE CLIFTON TOURER
The second example of the redoubtable Austin Twelve on offer today, this motor car is a pleasing example of the popular Clifton Tourer. Priced at £245 in 1928, the Clifton represented extremely good value for money and, as with all Austin products, was built from excellent materials. Today, survivors of the 12/4 proliferate and are catered for through the good offices of the Vintage Austin Register. For one seeking a sturdy and reliable motor car from the Vintage period, an example of the Austin 12/4 is well worthy of consideration.
Dating from mid-1928, this Clifton is finished in maroon with black wings and it has good, serviceable weather equipment in beige double duck. The brown leather upholstery has been renewed, as has the carpet, whilst mechanically we are assured that the motor car is in excellent order in all departments. Coming from a deceased estate, it is understood to have been restored during the 1980s and it has apparently covered only around 600 miles in the last 25 years.
Offered ready to use and enjoy, this charming Vintage Austin comes with a V5C document attesting to the original Dewsbury, Yorkshire, registration number, HD 568, together with an MOT certificate valid until 9th May 2008. Additional paperwork includes a number of previous MOT certificates, a letter stating that the car remained in one ownership between 1938 and 1978, and details of restoration work undertaken.
